If you're like most people, you wake up with the alarm ringing, you hit the snooze button a couple times, then you groggily and begrudgingly get out of bed, get ready and rush out the door without haven't eaten or taken the time for anything that resembles peace or relaxation. Does that sound like a good morning to you? I think not. Here are our 5 morning rituals to add beauty to your day and to your life!
1. Pay attention to your breath
Wake up, hit snooze if you want, but before going back to sleep, see if you can just focus on your breath for a few minutes. Breathing in and out, softly and deeply, just sending energy back into your body and keeping your mind focused on the present moment. Just this small step will make you feel so much more at peace.
2. Set an intention for the day
You've heard about setting intentions in your yoga class. Why not set an intention for your whole day? Take a minute to think about what you'd like to get out of this new day. How you'd like to feel. Maybe throw in some visualization in there and visualize how the day will go. Do you have a big project or meeting? Then take the time to envision how you'll present, how the people will react, and all the positive outcomes that can happen.
3. Drink a tall glass of lemon water
Alkaline your body with a glass of lemon water before you take a bite of breakfast or a sip of coffee. It'll wake you up immediately and make you feel energized without getting you too wired. You might even notice that you don't need as much coffee!
4. Take a hot shower
A quick, hot shower is just the thing you need if you want to completely start the day refreshed. Put some hair oil on the ends of your hair and wrap your hair up in a small towel or bun, then hop in. The steam from the shower will make your hair nice and soft, and when you take your hair out of the bun, you might even get a few waves to set in your hair for a nice, no-heat, look.
5. Breathe in a nice smelling scent
Light a candle or an incense to get some aromatherapy while you're getting ready. Breathing in a nice scent is a great way to lift your mood. Try a lavender scented candle if you're feeling stressed, an orange or lemon scent if you want to be energized, or some other scent that puts you in a good mood. Be sure to blow out the candle before you leave and while you're at give thanks and feel gratitude so your energy is happy and joyful.
